America’s Cup
The America’s Cup, affectionately known as the Auld Mug, is a trophy awarded to the winner of the America’s Cup match races between two sailing yachts. One yacht, known as the defender, represents the yacht club that currently holds the America’s Cup and the second yacht, known as the challenger, represents the yacht club that is challenging for the cup. The timing of each match is determined by an agreement between the defender and the challenger. The America’s Cup is the oldest international sporting trophy.
The 2017 America’s Cup course was on the Great Sound in Bermuda, the venue at the Royal Naval Dockyard which was stunning.
When checking out America’s Cup while in Bermuda we caught a peekaboo cruise ship moment of our Celebrity Cruise’s ship Celebrity Summit from Artimis Racing hub at America’s Cup village.
As the America’s Cup inched toward finals and the crowds descended on Bermuda to watch, here’s a favorite stop from when we watched some qualifying races at The America’s Cup Village while in Bermuda on Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Summit. The only way to watch in style with a crisp glass of champagne.
The next America’s Cup will be held in 2021.
