It started in London. I was fourteen years old, visiting my mother and stepfather — he was stationed at the American Embassy — and something shifted permanently. I had grown up in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington D.C., and then in the Shenandoah Valley after my father moved our family to rural Virginia when I was ten. I knew America intimately. But London was something else entirely.
I moved there at fifteen. I travelled throughout Europe all through high school — Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Madrid — absorbing everything with the particular hunger of someone who had discovered, early, that the world was vastly larger and more extraordinary than the one they'd been born into. When I eventually made my way back to the States and relocated to Hollywood, the hunger didn't stop. It just found new destinations.
"Whatever it may be, I make it my mission to feel comfortable and experience life in other parts of the world — while also enjoying some of the finer things I've come to appreciate."
That was the beginning of what has now become 45+ years of travel across 60+ countries — for work, for adventure, for the sheer pleasure of it. I am an avid foodie, a devoted craft cocktail & wine lover, a student of history, and someone who finds genuine beauty in people and places everywhere. I work out regularly and take care of myself, which means spas, wellness treatments, and health-forward experiences are as much a part of my travel as the finest restaurants. All of it matters. All of it is part of the experience.
I discovered early on that cruises are the world's most efficient luxury delivery system — and I mean that as the highest compliment. A great cruise ship gives you award-winning cuisine, fine wines, a spa, a place to work out, time to read and write and plan, and a new destination at your doorstep every morning. For someone who wants to taste test a place before committing, there is nothing better.
My approach: find a destination that intrigues me on a cruise itinerary, experience the best of what it has to offer in a day or two, and if it captivates me — which it often does — I go back. A week before or after the sailing, right there, going deeper. I get the best of what the cruise offers and the best of what the destination holds. It is, I have found, the ideal way to travel for someone who refuses to choose between breadth and depth.
I am not a reviewer who checks boxes. I am a traveler who has seen enough to know the difference between a hotel that performs luxury and one that actually delivers it. The difference is almost always in the details — the handwritten note, the chocolate tower with your name on it, the maître d' who remembers how you take your drink. Those are the things I write about, because those are the things that matter.
My husband Ross travels with me on most adventures, and his perspective informs everything I share. We have celebrated milestones in penthouses and on glacier ice fields. We have sat at the Tower Bar a hundred times and never once felt like we were paying for a table — we felt like we were coming home. That is the experience I want for every reader of this site: not just a hotel recommendation, but a sense of what it actually feels like to be there.
Food & Wine
From Michelin-starred tasting menus to a perfect bowl of pasta in a Roman side street — the table is where cultures reveal themselves. I eat and drink with full attention.
Spa & Wellness
Health is not separate from luxury travel — it is part of it. The best spas in the world are as worth seeking out as the best restaurants. I seek them both.
History & Culture
Every great destination has a story that predates the hotel. I read it before I arrive and look for it when I'm there. Context transforms a visit into an experience.
People & Places
The maître d' who has been at his post for twenty years. The winemaker who pours you the bottle she keeps for friends. Travel's finest moments are almost always human.
