Italy's Hidden Gems II
First I’ll share a tip. One thing to consider when traveling to Europe, especially Italy, is AIR CONDITIONING. When you go in summer months, it can be extremely hot and we have found many hotels or villas lack powerful air conditioning if you are lucky enough to even get it. If you’re American, you likely are more accustomed to AC that chills a space fast whenever the whim hits you. Not so much everywhere else. Although AC certainly is prevalent, it’s just not always the kind of powerful AC you might want in hot weather. So a safe choice in certain instances is to choose from hotels and resorts that will be guaranteed to provide a level of temperature comfort needed for sleeping. No one likes a stuffy humid hot room for sleep.
So on a recent trip to Italy after a cruise, we had a few days in Rome and chose to homestead at what became a memory far more than just a hotel stay, and found ourselves basking in ultimate luxury. When in Roma, there is simply no better place to be pampered and get the rest you need while experiencing the eternal city, than the breathtaking Rome Cavalieri, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.
As part of Hilton Hotels & Resorts Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts Collection, Cavalieri has been a top pick for dignitaries, celebrities and everybody else that just want to be taken care of and feel special since they opened their doors well over 50 years ago in 1963.
Here’s the catch, Hotel Rome Cavalieri is so much more than a hotel. Stay at this sprawling 15 acre property perched up on a hill with breathtaking views overlooking the eternal city, and you also get to take in one of the most impressive art collections in the world housed throughout the hotel along the majestic hallways and in the main lobby areas. You are staying in a museum.
At your fingertips, you can indulge at one of the most well-appointed spas in Italy at in-house Cavalieri Grand SPA Rome. Appointed with impressive indoor pool area including plush furniture, fireplaces, Turkish bath with multiple plunges and ultra modern treatment rooms, you’ll be sure to destress while you are taken care of by the ultra-attentive staff. Not surprising it delivers, it’s been voted Europe’s #1 Spa and #4 in the world by Travel + Leisure.
I have two favorite experiences to note about the Cavalieri which both include a cocktail experience. And of course, they have made it a multi-sensory experience.
First, the Tiepolo Lobby Bar and Terrace is so elegant surrounded by impressive artwork. The mixology? Perfection. In the summer months, you can choose to sit on the terrace overlooking the palatial pool areas just below while taking in the breathtaking daytime and nighttime views of Rome over the treeline that lie just beyond. At night in summer months, sit on the terrace and enjoy live classical piano music serenaded from a cabana at the pool in plain view from above.
You can spend hours listening to music relaxing and taking in the views and it will feel like only minutes have passed.
Second, during the day, the pool scene offers one of the most impressive poolside bar scenes in Europe with an extraordinary offering. I’ve never experienced a pool scene that offers such an impressive champagne selection while soaking up the sun. In fact, on our recent stay, Moet had partnered with the aquatic haven as Europes only Moet champagne poolside bar. Sipping Moet by the glass while basking in the sun in the heart of history is to this day one of my finest travel memories.
Hotel Cavalieri also is also home to La Pergola, one of Europe’s, and Italy’s only 3 Michelin star restaurants. Apparently Celebrated Chef Heinz Beck offers up a multi-sensory experience for guests that will likely leave you dreaming about your meal for months at what’s been voted Rome’s #1 restaurant time and again. La Pergola is located on the top floor of the Cavalieri and surely offers some of the very best views of the city you can’t get anywhere else. Alas, and unfortunate for us, on our recent stay, we were there in August and like many venues in Italy that month, it is closed the entire month for summer break. Guess that will only give us yet one more reason to return to this incredible Resort sooner than later so we can experience what the fuss is all about.
After sharing the impressive offerings at the Hotel Cavalieri, one might think the price tag could be unattainable. Certainly if you were to book their Penthouse located on the top floor overlooking the city with private roof garden terrace and jacuzzi, sprawling stylish indoor layout adorned with artwork including the likes of Andy Warhol or maybe one of their other enticing suite offerings, but you would be surprised what a standard King bed room could cost if you travel at the right time and look in the right place.
On a recent stay, we booked our rooms through https://5startravelguru.trvl.com/ and were able to secure two rooms in August for several nights for just under $150 US per night per room. Although our rooms didn’t offer city views, they still delivered an impressive garden view and was appointed with all of the luxuries you would expect including a spacious comfortable couch sitting area. We also were happy to just take in our city views with a glass of our favorite vino on the terrace listening to live classical piano music.
The only problem with a stay at Cavalieri is that you may have to push yourself to actually get out and go see the city’s treasures because there is chock full of things to do, see, hear, and taste right inside these walls. I couldn’t even begin to list everything this establishment provides for its guests. The athletic options alone from state of the art gym, tennis, walking trails, and more are just an example. To find out more, visit the link below and next time you are planning a trip to Europe make sure you make Cavalieri a stop that will likely be the highlight of your trip. Ciao!
